Tavares is branded as America’s Seaplane City, which is fitting since the first recorded seaplane flight was 107 years ago, off Lake Eustis on Feb. 23, 1914. Tavares borders Lake Harris, Lake Eustis & Lake Dora. It is the county seat in Lake County and is estimated to have a population of around 18,000.
