The year 2009 was a quiet one for Orlando in regards to the hurricane season which started on June 1 and ended on Nov 30.   There was record-breaking rain fall that flooded Volusia County in the month of May.  The rainfall in the Orlando area helped make up for the 31 percent shortfall of precipitation for the year.  There was a total of 10 named storms in 2009 and only two of them, Bill and Fred, were actual hurricanes.  Hopefully the year 2010  hurricane season will be just as quiet as last year.
